As she watched a dance of smoky blue lights began to play over Michael’s body. It erupted soundlessly into a splay of undulating smoke. The strange lenticular effect encased him in a minute as if he were half there half somewhere else. It was clear that he was happy and she guessed he was somehow in some sort of hallucination involving Rachel.

He was only this content when he was with Rachel and Sarah. With an almost inaudible hiss like solidifying ice Michael was completely consumed by the eerie effect unaware of Tyran’s presence. “Don’t worry mate. I’ll find Jacke and Varran and get you out,” she said kneeling at his side but how exactly Tyran was going to achieve that seemed a

mad huge insurmountable mountain at this exact moment in time. Suppressing her fear Tyran got to her feet. She checked her hand unit. With a rush of relief, her eyes widened as she picked up Varran’s hand unit.

“I’ll be back,” she directed at the oblivious Michael. As Tyran turned she gave a gasp of shocked surprise.

Behind her stood a short rotund man with a grey walrus moustache. He had a tight lipped smile on his dimpled face and stared at her with deep green eyes. From his dark navy uniform and tipped cap she could see he was a conductor. An antique silver fob watch hung from his waistcoat pocket. His uniform was impeccable and in pristine condition. His right arm was held up by a sling but there was no plaster cast to indicate it was broken. For a moment all Tyran could think of was Thomas the Tank Engine.

“Hello,” she said tentatively. “Can you help me free my friend please? I’m betting you know what is happening here. We need to get these people off this train asap.”

Those green eyes suddenly flared with a burning blue energy.

“Wounded!” the conductor roared raising his arms the blue energy consuming his entire body. Tyran reached for her laser pistol but never made it as she was struck in multiple areas of her body by the lightning that shot from his hands. Her scream was

caught in her throat as she fell back into a seat. As the young woman slumped back with an agonised scream all she heard was a screech in her head. It felt like brain freeze after eating ice cream too quickly. In a second Tyran knew nothing more.

With a sigh the conductor reverted to normal, looking at the fallen girl with green eyes once again. He seemed unconcerned as he checked the stupefied Michael. He nodded with an air of satisfaction. With a stiff tilt of his head, his double chin expanded over his shirt neck as he looked down at the limp Tyran.

“”I’m sorry madam but I’m afraid that’s not possible. You see once aboard this train, there is no getting off!”
